85%The first exhibit upon entering the hall is a Covered Bronze Ram-shaped Zun-vessel with three legs.
This bronze artifact is from the State of Zhoulai in Spring and Autumn period, features an aluminum-black patina, and consists of two parts: the lid and the vessel body.
Xu Di, Head of Education Department, Minhang Museum said: "This ram-shaped bronze Zun, the only one extant in China, actually in present-day Huainan's Shou County, served as a key city and even capital for several important states during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, such as the ancient State of Zhoulai before the mid-Spring and Autumn Period.
It not only served as an exquisite cultural object but likely also as a functional vessel, embodying the aesthetic integration of form and purpose, representing the Huaiyi region, Shou County, and standing as a highly significant artifact within the broader sphere of Chu culture."
One of the exhibition’s most prominent items, the E Jun Qi Bronze Pass, is China’s earliest known Tax Exemption Pass, issued by King Huai of Chu to his son E Jun Qi, recording details such as tax exemption quotas, applicable routes, and validity periods.
This artifact is exceptionally rare and will be displayed for approximately one week.
Xu Di said:" The artifact features layered bronze adorned with gold and silver inlay. This kind of Duty-free Pass has 5 pieces totally in China, three for carriages and two for boats.
"This one is for carriages, epitomizing the thriving commerce of the Chu State at that time due to the trading demand, such tax exemption were issued to specific individuals to facilitate duty-free trade and travel, definitely worth viewing."
